Travel Itinerary
0900h - Arequipa city center Pick ups-Canteras de Añashuayco-Culebrillas
Discover the origins of Arequipa’s iconic white stone on this half-day cultural and scenic tour along the famous Sillar Route.
After being picked up from your hotel, travel to the impressive Añashuayco Quarry, located about 45 minutes from the city. This active quarry offers a fascinating insight into the traditional work of local stonemasons, who have been shaping volcanic stone for centuries. Admire canyon walls formed by sillar extraction and see a remarkable large-scale carving of the Church of La Compañía de Jesús. You’ll also have the chance to interact with artisans and even try cutting a stone block yourself.
Continue to the Culebrillas Canyon, a natural gorge shaped by water erosion over time. Enjoy a short and easy walk (around 20 minutes) through this narrow canyon, surrounded by walls up to 20 meters high. Along the way, spot ancient petroglyphs created by the Wari culture over 1,000 years ago.
Before heading back, observe the traditional apachetas—small stone towers built as symbols of gratitude to nature and good fortune.
Return to Arequipa city center, where the tour ends near the Main Square.
